Brian Morrissey, graduate of Camberwell School of Art, is an Irish artist living and working in London. His works are collected in the UK and Europe, and are part of the David Robert's Collection.
Through photography and narrative, Morrissey presents us with visual depictions of life, death and all the wild, wonderful and woeful bits in between. Morrissey is like a latter day Bruegel - in a single image he has told us a whole life’s story, a story like it is.
Morrissey gives us the good, the bad and the ugly. On first inspection, his works are colourful and bright with a retro kitsch feel, but in close up we see a peeling surface of consumerism, disposability, sex, death and decay. Morrissey’s photographs are strange quasi worlds where fact and fiction parade themselves alongside each other. This is a world where stuffed fluffy kittens meet rats with rigamortus, and love and violence walk hand in hand. Morrissey of course gives everything a generous dusting of sugar as he draws us into his complex worlds of debauched splendor leaving us with iconographic references that show the physical and social climate of our time.
