Brilith

Brilith, otherwise known as Merje Jarv-Griffiths, works primarily in the medium of wool, exploring its sculptural qualities to produce more than your average functional or decorative knitwear. Not the biggest fan of Hammer Horror's more gruesome aspects, she finds knitting puddles of blood, murder weapons and severed hands a fitting homage to Hammer's softer side, quite literally!

Born in Estonia in 1982, Brilith has since lived and worked in Venice, Berlin and Basel and is currently resident in London where she has particpated in a number of guerilla knitting events. The Hammer Festival at the Idea Generation Gallery in London was Brilith’s first major show and she is now in the early stages of a collaboration with the Irish artist Vanessa O’Reilly as well as becoming well-known in several London pubs for her knitted mushrooms.
