Josie McCoy: Contemporary Icons

Fresh from winning Spain's prestigious Castellon Painting Prize, Josie McCoy exhibits her newest work this month at Opus. Famous faces such as Nicole Kidman and Milla Jovovich are just two of an extensive cast of icons that McCoy has used to allure viewers with her evocative portrait stills, which distil what is in essence a transitory medium into a singular, striking and memorable moment.

Josie's recent work has been influenced by the 'American Dream' and the darker subtext that is present in any such paradise. This is explored through her new paintings which use characters taken from American television programmes such as 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Twin Peaks'.
